Wiring a socket on a ring final circuit

A ring final circuit is the standard UK socket arrangement. One cable leaves the consumer unit, visits every socket in turn, and returns to the SAME breaker — forming a ring. That means every socket on the ring has TWO mains cables arriving at it: the leg coming from the previous socket, and the leg carrying on to the next. Both are ordinary 2.5mm² twin-and-earth feeds (line, neutral, earth). At the socket they land on shared terminals: • Both browns → L • Both blues → N • Both earths → E This is why a ring is more resilient than a radial: current can reach each socket from both directions. Wire the first leg, then the second leg.

Step 1 of 6

Connect the live (brown) of ring leg A to the L terminal.
